About the AI Marketing Series

AI is changing how businesses approach marketing, but how much can you really automate? The AI Marketing Series by Easy Web Partner explores where AI can save you time, where it falls short, and why human expertise still matters.

In this post, we look at whether your business should use AI-generated social media content or not.

AI has changed how quickly businesses can create social media content. You can get a caption, a content idea or an image in seconds, and there are now countless tools promising to take your social media efforts completely off your hands.

But there is a big difference between creating a lot of content and creating content that actually gives results.

In this post, we look at why letting AI run your social media accounts might not be the shortcut it appears to be.

TL;DR: Should you use AI for your business’ social media posts? Yes, but not as a replacement for your (human) social media expert.

Can you really outsource your social media to AI?

Technically, yes.

Modern AI tools can write captions, suggest content calendars, create images, turn long-form content into social posts and adapt the same idea for different platforms. Some even promise to create your entire social media presence for you. Just give them some information about your business, and they will generate a calendar full of posts – ready to publish.

This sounds great in theory. But the issue is that the output (and value) might not be as good as first expected.

When AI usage becomes obvious

You have probably seen it yourself.

The biggest problem with AI-generated social media content is simply how clearly AI-generated it can look.

Common signs of AI-generated social media content include:

  • Generic statements that could apply to almost any business.
  • Overly polished or enthusiastic language.
  • The same predictable hooks and content structures.
  • Lots of buzzwords without saying anything specific.
  • Advice that sounds good but doesn’t offer much value.
  • Images that look impressive but have no real connection to the business.

A lot of the content is simply completely interchangeable.

In other words, if you removed your logo and business name, would it be possible to know that the post came from you? Probably not.

And sometimes, the giveaway is even more obvious:

  • The post literally includes the AI’s introduction, such as “Absolutely! Here’s a caption you can use…”
  • The prompt or instructions have accidentally been left in the caption.
  • The caption talks about “your business” instead of actually naming it.
  • Every post follows exactly the same structure.
  • An image containing strange details, unrealistic people or text that makes no sense.
  • Several businesses in the same industry publish the same post.

Sadly, we have witnessed all of these issues and more. And our social media feeds keep getting flooded with business visuals that are very clearly AI-generated – often with obvious spelling errors on them.

As industry experts and perfectionists, we notice these things. But the issue is that, in most cases, your clients will too. And worst case, it can affect how people perceive your business.

In the end, your social media is a reflection of your business. If it looks rushed, careless and generic, potential clients have reason to assume the same about your products and/or services.

Why human beats “perfect”

Sure, good prompting and editing can reduce many of the most typical errors of AI-generated content.

But it’s one thing to avoid mistakes. It’s another to produce content that actually provides value.

Your followers don’t need another perfectly polished post telling them to “unlock their potential”. They want something useful, interesting, entertaining or genuine.

Often a real photo, a customer story or an honest opinion from the person behind the business is far more effective than something AI could ever produce. That’s because in the era of AI overload, human and honest beats polished.

And don’t forget: Good social media content needs a reason to exist. It needs to actually benefit your business somehow.

There is no point in posting just to post. Your posts should always have a clear objective and purpose, which AI-generated ideas often don’t.

So what should you use AI for?

We’re not anti-AI. In fact, AI can still be extremely useful for your social media. The trick is just knowing where it helps and how to use it in a “less obvious” way.

In our opinion, AI can be used to:

  • Brainstorm content ideas.
  • Turn a rough thought into a first draft.
  • Repurpose existing content.
  • Suggest different ways to structure a post.
  • Adapt content for different platforms.
  • Improve wording or shorten a caption.
  • Check spelling and grammar.
  • Create or edit certain types of visual content.

But you should not rely on AI to:

  • Decide what your business should be talking about.
  • Replace your knowledge and experience.
  • Invent facts, customer stories or opinions.
  • Come up with your entire content strategy without human input.
  • Create and publish without checking and editing the result.

AI can be a useful assistant, but it should not replace your social media expert.

Why outsource your marketing to real humans

We have come across and tested plenty of tools that promised to create the perfect social media content for our business, and so far, they simply don’t live up to their claims. In short, the output is far too generic.

In other words, AI has not managed to compete with our expertise and human judgment.

If you truly want your social media to shine and bring in leads, it needs to deliver a lot more than a stream of generic, AI-generated content. It needs to represent your business properly, fit your brand and support your wider marketing. And achieving that takes more than finding the right prompt.
